Simon Franklin

I am a specialist construction solicitor with more years experience than I care to admit! Previously I’ve dealt with both contentious and non-contentious matters, but in my role at Archor I’ve left the disputes behind me and am now focused solely on providing non-contentious advice to a range of clients. I started my career in London with an international firm, before moving to head up the construction practices in regional firms in Manchester and Cambridge.

The backbone of my work is advising on building contracts, professional appointments and the related documentation (warranties, bonds etc.), but I find my role often includes advising and supporting clients throughout the entire construction process from procurement to completion and, sometimes beyond. I’ve helped clients build multi-million pound retail/leisure developments, industrial business parks, housing schemes and even a footballer build a hotel! I have also worked for contractors, sub-contractors and consultants on projects of all sizes and value. Having worked for “both sides”, I can fully understand the complexities of construction projects and am equipped to help clients navigate any issues.

As well as practical assistance, I also regularly provide training for clients on legal/contractual matters including insolvency and termination.

I’ve been told I have a commercially sensible and pragmatic approach to my work, a trait I believe I share with my colleagues here at Archor. Of course that doesn’t mean I won’t fight my client’s corner when required. When I’m not negotiating contracts and the like, I try to fight off the advancing years with a bit of bouldering (a hobby that has me literally climbing the walls!).
