I am a disputes lawyer with over a decade of experience in the construction sector. As with everyone at Archor I focus solely on construction work.

Like most construction disputes lawyers, my bread and butter is really adjudication. Typically I act for main contractors or large sub-contractors, which often find themselves piggy-in-the-middle – chasing money upstream and facing claims from down the supply chain. But I am also familiar with acting for developers, consultants and private individuals in whatever capacity they might be involved in a construction project.

As well as adjudication, I have experience of bringing and defending court proceedings involving everything from the low thousands of pounds to nine-figure claims. I have also been involved in bringing and responding to injunctive relief, arbitrations, expert determinations, mediations, and other forms of alternative dispute resolution, and I advise clients ad hoc on issues which arise during the course of projects.

Before focussing solely on construction, at the start of my career I worked in general commercial dispute resolution with a particular emphasis on soft intellectual property (trade marks and copyright). I gained experience of working on international disputes touching all five continents, dealing with everything from fruit importation to luxury yachts, and military hardware to a partnership dispute in one of the world’s largest accountancy practices. That work gave me insight into a variety of worlds – which now assists me in doing what I do best and enjoy most: construction disputes.

I am born and bred in Cambridge, and am heavily involved with Cambridge Ahead, with which I am working on a project considering quality of life in the city, in particular how infrastructure and the built environment impact that. I am an active member of the Society of Construction Law, the Technology and Construction Solicitors’ Association, and the Cambridge Forum for the Construction Industry.

I keep a keen eye on developments in the construction world – both legal and commercial – and you will see my hand over Aggregate, our newsletter, of which I have grandly appointed myself editor-in-chief.
